Abilene Independent School District is considering a sale of the building known for its gothic revival architecture near the center of the city. Most recently it housed Lincoln Middle School, but now it’s vacant and the frequent target of vandals. The original bronze dedication plaque designed by architect David S. Castle has been stolen. Last year the Abilene Preservation League placed it at the top of a list of preservation opportunities in Abilene. The executive director of the APL, Bill Minter, called it a “pivotal piece of property.” |
